Huang Tianwei, founder of the defunct cryptocurrency exchange AEX (formerly Bit Era), has been released on bail in Thailand after being arrested in connection with a fraud case involving 200 million Thai Baht ($5.7 million). The arrest followed allegations that Tianwei refused to allow users to withdraw funds after the exchange collapsed, with only three creditors reportedly recovering their assets through extreme measures.

The case stems from a 2025 meeting in Thailand's Chiang Rai province, where Tianwei allegedly discussed cryptocurrency investments with two Chinese nationals who later became victims. AEX, operational since 2013, had accumulated significant user funds before its downfall, leaving many investors without recourse.
